IELTS Speaking Part 2 – WH-Question Method
I have used many electronic devices throughout my life for different purposes. When I was a child, I mainly used simple devices like televisions and basic mobile phones, and as I grew older, I started using more advanced devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops for both work and personal activities. Although I have faced a few minor problems with these devices, today I would like to talk about one particular incident when I had a serious problem with one of electronic device.
The electronic device I would like to talk about is my laptop, which I use regularly for both work and personal activities. Among the electronic devices I use, this was probably the one that caused me the most serious problem.
The problem was that my laptop suddenly stopped working while I was preparing an important presentation. The screen froze completely, and none of the applications were responding. After a few minutes, the laptop switched off by itself and wouldn't turn on again.
I think the problem happened because I had been using the laptop continuously for several hours. It had also become quite hot, and I had several applications running at the same time. Unfortunately, I hadn't saved my presentation recently, so I was quite worried that I might lose my work.
At first, I tried to solve the problem myself, but when I couldn't turn the laptop on, I contacted one of my friends who is quite good at dealing with technical problems. He suggested a few things that I could try.
This happened at my home while I was working at my desk. Since I had an important presentation to complete, I became quite stressed when the laptop suddenly stopped working.
It happened about six months ago, the night before an important presentation. I had only a few hours left to finish preparing my slides, so the timing of the problem made the situation even more stressful.
First, I tried restarting the laptop several times, but nothing happened. Then I disconnected the charger and waited for a few minutes. Following my friend's advice, I held down the power button for several seconds and connected the charger again. Fortunately, the laptop eventually turned on. I was extremely relieved because most of my presentation had been saved automatically. After that, I backed up my important files and decided to save my work more frequently.
Overall, it was a stressful experience because I was worried about losing my important work. However, I was able to solve the problem in the end, and it taught me to back up my files regularly and never depend entirely on a single electronic device.
